Patrick Luc Nixon was born on September 24, 2000, in Seattle, Washington, the son of Lester James Nixon and Yen Luc Nixon. The family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2001, and Draper, Utah in 2003, where Patrick began elementary school and his life-long love of soccer.
In 2007 the family moved to North Carolina, where Patrick entered the Wake County Magnet School program. He first attended Wake Forest Elementary and then Powell Elementary. From Powell he moved to Ligon Magnet Middle School where he was Concert Master for the Ligon Orchestra and also played on the soccer team. Patrick participated in the CASL Classic league for soccer as well.
Following Ligon, Patrick attended William G. Enloe Magnet High School. He played Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer for Enloe. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and held various positions in student government. Patrick was very involved in the Enloe Charity Ball which raises funds for charities in the Raleigh area.
Patrick graduated summa cum laude from Enloe and also received the International Baccalaureate Diploma from Enloe. Patrick received an excellent high school education and he was very proud to be an Enloe graduate.
Patrick chose to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He had decided to double major in Public Policy and Economics. He was especially interested in behavioral economics and was considering a career in governmental affairs or consulting.
He was a member of UNC student government, serving on the First Year Focus Council, and was active with Campus Y.
Patrick loved his work-study job at the UNC Visitors Center. This position involved providing tours of the campus to anyone visiting the University. Patrick also separately qualified as a volunteer Admissions Ambassador, providing tours to prospective students. He always gave tours of campus to his friends who came to visit him.
Patrick’s mother, Yen Luc Nixon, succumbed to cancer in 2016, after a two and a half year battle. Camp Kesem is an on-campus organization that provides support to children who have lost parents to cancer. At UNC Patrick discovered Camp Kesem and its goals and he devoted much time and effort on Camp Kesem's behalf and was excited to have been accepted as a camp counselor.
Among other interests, Patrick loved to travel. He had been to all 50 states and half of the national parks. He always carried his national park passport. He loved to binge-watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. He loved the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike novels by Robert Crais. Patrick loved his big brother, Philip Luc Nixon. He also leaves his loving stepmother, Donna and her children, Stephanie and Bryan. He loved to spend time with his friends. He loved Maya Lin and her family, Art, Laurie, and “little brother” Kyle. They considered him family and he appreciated their love and caring support.
